Stephen A. Smith identifies two Democratic governors as top contenders for 2028

Stephen A. Smith shared two of his top picks for the Democratic ticket in 2028: Josh Shapiro from Pennsylvania and Wes Moore from Maryland.

During an interview on SiriusXM’s “Straight Shooter with Stephen A.,” a caller from Wisconsin, who identified as a lifelong Democrat, expressed some skepticism about California Governor Gavin Newsom, implying he isn’t fully on board with him as the likely candidate.

“You shouldn’t be completely sold,” Smith responded. “Let me tell you, I have two candidates I really like. I’m not trying to sway your vote; I just want to share my thoughts.”

He praised both Shapiro and Moore, saying, “These are my favorites, though not necessarily in any specific order.”

Even though Moore has signaled he won’t run for president in 2028, Smith urged listeners to keep him in mind as a viable option.

“Wes Moore is the real deal. Don’t be fooled by his uncertainty about running; he’s someone who knows how to communicate and get results,” Smith noted. “You really shouldn’t overlook him.”

Smith also commented on Newsom’s appearance, mentioning his style, specifically a blue suit he often wears. Yet, he pointed out that being from California might present challenges for Newsom in a general election.

“They’ll highlight various issues linked to the state’s struggles,” he told his audience. “People will notice when companies leave for more affordable locations, and that could impact his chances.”

He continued, “Ultimately, Gavin Newsom is a genuinely kind person, but in leadership, sometimes, you have to say no, and that seems challenging for him.”
