DeChambeau’s Return for Ryder Cup
Farmingdale, New York – Bryson DeChambeau is eager to face the challenge at Bethpage Black.
After moving to LIV Golf from the PGA Tour, DeChambeau anticipated the consequences. Team USA’s automatic qualifications rely on points accumulated through the FedEx Cup, primarily from major tournaments and PGA events. Unfortunately for him, LIV Golf players can only compete in the majors. As a result, DeChambeau missed the qualifying for the 2023 team and wasn’t selected as a captain’s pick.
“Yeah, I really wanted this,” DeChambeau expressed to reporters. “My performance in the majors wasn’t great. When I made the shift to LIV, I knew it would be different. But I still wanted to contribute and build a team.”
After experiencing disappointment in Rome two years ago, he viewed Bethpage as a crucial opportunity — with four majors in 2024 and 2025 to secure his place this year. In those events, he clinched the 2024 U.S. Open and secured second place in both PGA Championships, along with three additional top-10 finishes.
However, despite these achievements, it wasn’t sufficient to secure automatic qualification.
“The team really wanted me to contribute, and now we’re gearing up for what could be the most thrilling golf event out there,” he said, relief evident in his tone, especially since he missed last year’s Olympics and couldn’t compete after encountering COVID-19 in 2021.
“It’s been a personal mission after not making it to Rome,” he added. “I’ve participated in various team events, and this experience has motivated me more than ever to be a valuable member of this team.”
Reflecting on his time in the Ryder Cup, he shared, “I want to give my all for this USA team. The unity here is immense; our captain has truly rallied us together like no one before.”
DeChambeau stated that assembling this team was his top priority. “It was really important for me, and representing my country means everything,” he concluded.
He now holds a 2-3-1 record in his Ryder Cup career, having first joined in 2018, where he played alongside Tiger Woods, marking Woods’ final participation in the event.
