Trump celebrates Comey indictment: 'Justice in America'

Trump’s Response to Comey Indictment

On Thursday, President Trump expressed his satisfaction regarding the indictment of James Comey, the former FBI director and a notable critic of his administration. This news surfaced just days after Trump publicly called for action against Comey and others.

“American Justice! James Comey is one of the worst individuals this country has ever seen, the former corrupt head of the FBI,” Trump shared on The Society of Truth.

He continued, “Today, he was charged by a major jury with two felony counts for various illegal activities. He has been detrimental to our country for far too long, and now it’s time he faces consequences for his actions against our nation.”

A federal jury has indicted Comey for making false statements that obstructed Congress’ lawsuits related to his 2020 Senate testimony.

This indictment marks the first time one of Trump’s notable political adversaries has faced formal charges.

Last Saturday, Trump questioned why his Attorney General, Pam Bondy, had not taken action against Comey and other political rivals, expressing frustration in a post: “We can’t delay it anymore. It’s damaging our reputation and credibility. They each fired me twice and prosecuted me five times; still, nothing happens.”

Trump has consistently pushed for accusations against Comey, who criticized the investigations into his campaign’s ties with Russia during the 2016 election, which Trump labeled as a “witch hunt.”

After dismissing Comey from his position in 2017 while an investigation was ongoing, tensions between the two have remained high.

The recent indictment has sparked concern among Democrats and critics of Trump, who have characterized it as an attempt to target the president’s detractors. “Donald Trump has made it clear that he intends to turn the judicial system into a weapon to punish and silence critics,” remarked Senator Mark Warner, a Democrat from Virginia, in a statement.
