Tragic Passing of Former Arsenal Player

A young former Arsenal player has tragically died after sustaining severe brain injuries during a non-league match in England. Billy Vigar suffered a collision with a concrete wall while trying to keep the ball from going out of play at Wingate and Finchley on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was placed in an induced coma and underwent surgery on Tuesday, but, unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries by Thursday.

In a statement on social media, Chichester City Football Club expressed deep sorrow at Vigar’s passing. The club requested privacy for his family during this challenging time, adding, “Rest in Peace Billy. Forever in all the minds of Chichester City Football Club.”

Following Vigar’s death, the team postponed their upcoming match against Lewis. His family, reflecting on the situation, remarked on how beloved he was in the sport, stating, “His family is devastated this happened while playing the sport he loved.”

Vigar had been part of Arsenal’s Academy since 2017, ultimately signing a professional contract with the club in 2022. Arsenal described him as a “powerful and versatile player,” expressing their shock and grief over his untimely demise, saying, “All our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Rest in peace, Billy.”

The Isthmian League Premier Division, where Chichester City competes, will observe moments of silence before matches this weekend in honor of Vigar. Additionally, players across the league will don black armbands as a mark of respect.
