Reflecting on Our Inheritance
The question, “Is that nothing for you?” lingers in my mind. It’s not just a question for a broadcasting entity; it resonates with me as a citizen, a father, a husband, and a believer. Anyone who cares about our country, culture, and civilization must confront it.
We’ve squandered this inheritance. We seem to have lost our sense of identity, while those who oppose us are eager to tell the story of our decline.
Western Civilization—rooted in Athens, shaped by the Jewish faith, tested in Rome, reignited in Wittenberg, and reaffirmed on the shores of Plymouth Rock—is a gift. We didn’t earn it; it was given to us. Now we need to consider: do we want it as well?
Across Europe, unrest is visible in the streets. What once were celebrations have turned into displays of hatred, reminiscent of darker times. Now, these displays wrap themselves in the guise of peace but harbor genocidal intentions. Society feels fraught with violence and division. Here in America, it seems we are polarized between left and right.
Honestly, I’m struggling to find a sense of belonging. Even the church seems asleep—or worse, complicit.
Today, it feels like traditions, marriage, gender, faith, and even love need a complete overhaul. The only remaining sin appears to be the belief in absolute truth. Screens take the place of sacred texts; entertainment overshadows education. Our children are lost, caught in cycles of confusion, addiction, and despair. Colleges mock virtue, and Congress appears indifferent. It’s not about informing anymore; it’s about media spectacle. Education? More like a rebranding of schools.
So, is this worth saving? If not, maybe we should just give up. But if it is, we need to act—and we need to act swiftly.
The Essence of the West
What does “the West” signify? It’s not a territory or ethnicity; it’s an idea. It asserts that humans are created in the image of God, that freedom arises from responsibility, and that both truth and evil exist. It stresses the need for daily courage. The West values education, reason, and revelation working in harmony. Kindness, empathy, and sacrifice are sacred; justice is blind, while mercy is always present.
We’ve let this legacy slip. We’ve erased our own history, while those who oppose us write our narrative.
If not now, then when? If not us, then who? If this is something worth preserving, we need to understand why. Western civilization deserves our devotion, our lives, even our sacrifice. It was forged in the struggles of martyrs, poets, soldiers, and families. They didn’t fight for markets or identities; they fought for something greater.
But, there is still hope. Renewal is possible—not just in historical contexts but also in the fundamental truths of honesty, honor, and the collective return to accountability and responsibility within our communities.
Embracing Our Calling
We exist in this moment for a reason. The swirling chaos and moral decline we see in Europe and elsewhere reach us as well. Deep down, I believe we are meant to carry this fire forward.
Our mission isn’t to simply win; it’s to stand firm. We must hold the torch and ask ourselves every day: Is this worth standing for? Is it worth saving?
Light exists amidst the darkness, and that darkness hasn’t extinguished it. So, pick up the torch. If you’ve decided to carry it, prepare yourself. The real work is just beginning.
