Unexpected Connections: Freddie Freeman and The Golden Bachelor
It seems that not everyone anticipated this crossover—Dodgers star Freddie Freeman has an unexpected tie to season 2 of ABC’s dating show, The Golden Bachelor.
Freeman’s aunt, Carol Freeman Blansten, is one of 23 women vying for the affections of Mel Owens, a former Rams player turned lawyer who’s now taking on the role of “Golden Bachelor.”
Carol, 63, boasts three daughters from a previous marriage and is quite the tambourine enthusiast who’s a fan of Bad Bunny. Interestingly, she admits to consuming more diet cola than water—perhaps she has her reasons!
Recently back in school, she joked about the perks, saying, “I can get discounts for students and seniors now!”
Her main focus right now? Finding a meaningful connection with Mel Owens. As described in her ABC bio, “For Carol, this journey is about finding her forever,” and I think many can relate to that desire.
At the premiere of The Golden Bachelor, Owens, who is 66, expressed some remorse over past comments where he mentioned possibly “cutting” a woman over 60 when she called him. He seemed to reflect a bit, noting that age shouldn’t define someone’s ability to connect.
“It’s kind of overwhelming,” he remarked while heading to the mansion for the premiere. “When they’re out, I don’t think about age. I see the feelings of connection. It’s chemistry.” Who doesn’t want chemistry, right?
He added, “It doesn’t matter how old you are. Falling in love never stops being magic.”
The women vying for his attention include Maia, 58; Susie, 62; Lisa, 66; and others in their 60s and 70s, showcasing a diverse range of women.
Meanwhile, back on the baseball diamond, Freeman made headlines of his own by hitting two home runs, contributing to an 8-0 win against the Diamondbacks. His team, the Dodgers, is set to kick off a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners on Friday.
