Stewart Critiques Harris Over Running Mate Comments

On Thursday, Jon Stewart, the host of “The Weekly Show,” took aim at former Vice President Kamala Harris for her comments regarding his decision not to choose Pete Buttigieg as a running mate for the 2024 election.

Ken Martin, chair of the Democratic National Committee, weighed in, suggesting that voters are losing trust in Democrats because elected officials seem disconnected, almost like they’re selling them something insincere.

Stewart remarked on Harris’s new book, “107 Days,” where she implied that Buttigieg’s sexuality was a factor in her decision. “When you say, ‘He’s gay and that’s too much risk,’ you’re basically saying, ‘Yeah, that’s a negative behavior.’ It’s confusing,” he expressed.

In her book, Harris reflected on the challenges of acceptance, stating, “We were already asking a lot of America to embrace a woman, a Black woman, and a Black woman married to a Jewish man. But knowing what’s at stake, it was just too risky.” She added that Buttigieg was aware of these challenges.

Rahm Emanuel criticized Harris’s decision, arguing that it was unwise to skip over Buttigieg as a potential running mate if she couldn’t trust her instincts.

Both Stewart and Martin pointed out the contradictions in Harris’s stance. While she advocates for LGBTQ rights, her hesitation to choose Buttigieg based on his identity undermines the credibility of the Democrats.

Speaking on authenticity in politics, Stewart mentioned that NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani seems to grasp the core issues and offers genuine solutions.

Martin chimed in, mentioning that many candidates deliver what sounds like reliability but fail to inspire real belief. He emphasized that authenticity is key.

Martin chuckled as he commented on politicians who project strength but lack the action to back it up. “Everyone’s delivering fiery speeches, trying to convey strength. But strength is action, it’s about authenticity,” he remarked, questioning whether they really believe what they’re selling.

As for Harris, she has yet to respond to these recent critiques.
