Valerie Bertinelli's surprising revelation about never being invited on a first date

Valerie Bertinelli Shares Surprising Love Life Insights

Valerie Bertinelli recently opened up about her romantic experiences on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” The 65-year-old actress made an interesting revelation—she’s never actually been asked out on a first date. This discussion arose as they talked about new dating trends, like women reaching out to men for help with home improvement projects via dating apps.

“I think that’s a clever idea,” Bertinelli commented. “I don’t know if I’m really into that kind of thing, but then again, I’ve never been on a first date, so I can’t say how it works.” When co-host Ross Mathews pressed her for details, she simply stated, “No one has ever asked me.” It’s surprising, really. You’d think someone so prominent would have had at least one offer.

Barrymore, with her signature humor, joked about skipping the dating phase altogether: “Let’s just get to marriage.” She then asked, “You’re Valerie Bertinelli! What gives?”

Bertinelli reflected on her life, saying, “I married at 20, which was… interesting.” She recalled how she met Eddie Van Halen at a concert in her hometown, with her brother facilitating the introduction. “We talked behind the scenes before the show,” she recalled. After attending another concert in Oklahoma, things just clicked. They ended up marrying in 1981 and were together for 26 years before their divorce in 2007. Their son, Wolfgang, is now 34. Sadly, Van Halen passed away in 2020 after battling cancer.

Later, Bertinelli married businessman Tom Vitale in 2011, but they split in 2022. She filed for legal separation in 2021 and has expressed her struggles with the toxic aspects of her second marriage. “I often felt like I was yelling at myself about being lazy or overweight,” she shared during a January 2023 Instagram story.

She has been quite vocal about her experiences with emotional abuse, although she hasn’t directly named her ex-husband. Reflecting on her feelings, she wrote about the hidden scars left by verbal and emotional abuse, explaining how they can resurface in daily life.

Now, she seems to be focusing on healing. “I’m grateful that my work in healing is fruitful. It’s become a source of laughter for me,” she shared as she mentioned putting away certain pants symbolizing those painful moments.
