A recent 53-minute meeting between Prince Harry and King Charles did not lead to an official reconciliation, but it did reveal a heartfelt moment shared between them.
Taking place on September 10, the encounter left Harry feeling like an “official visitor” in the UK, rather than part of the family. He did bring framed photos of his young family—his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Archie and Lilibet—to share with his father.
Interestingly, during this meeting, Charles, who is 76, gave Harry an early birthday gift ahead of his 41st birthday on September 15.
The two began their meeting around 5:22 PM when Harry arrived at Clarence House in a Land Rover.
After the meeting, Harry reportedly left for a reception for the Invictus Games at 6:14 PM, following an affectionate kiss on the cheek and a private tea time.
According to sources, the king is keen to uphold the Sandringham Agreement, which outlines the terms of Harry’s departure from royal duties. This means there’s little room for a “half-in, half-out” role for the Duke, who moved to Montecito, California, with Meghan in 2020.
A royal source mentioned that while Charles is undoubtedly generous, he acknowledges his late mother’s view that there can’t be any “half-half” working members of the royal family.
Despite the formal atmosphere, it seems Harry had no plans to return to royal duties, wanting instead to focus on family matters. He reportedly cherished time spent with relatives and friends, and was primarily in town to support causes that genuinely matter to him.
Harry’s representatives refuted any claims suggesting he intended to create distance between William and Charles, labeling such reports as “garbage.” They expressed that he’s not trying to create tension within the family.
Both Charles and Harry’s teams did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the meeting. It was noted that since moving to California, Harry and Meghan’s children have not met their grandfather due to security concerns during the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
This meeting marked the first time the father and son had seen each other in 19 months. Sources mentioned how Harry shared a video of his child with Charles, and his spokesman expressed joy about his return to the UK for a family reunion.
During his visit, Harry took time to visit his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II’s resting place. After speaking with his father, he reported that Charles, who had been diagnosed with cancer in 2024, was doing “great.” An earlier report claimed that a handwritten note from Harry showed his desire for family unity, and that there were moments filled with hugs and tears during their meeting, which was described as genuinely positive.
“When they first met, they shared a long embrace,” a source told US Weekly. “Harry started crying, but it was very emotional for both of them. They really missed each other.”
