It’s Darts Time

Rookie quarterback Jackson Dart got a heartfelt send-off from his family as he stepped onto the field for his first NFL start against the Chargers at MetLife Stadium.

As Dart joined his first offensive series, CBS zoomed in on a suite filled with his family, including his mom, Kara, who was cheering him on.

The game kicked off to a fantastic start for Dart and the Giants, with the 22-year-old quarterback leading the team to an early 10-3 advantage midway through the second quarter after scoring a rushing touchdown.

Dart, who was the 25th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft back in April, was named the team’s starting quarterback earlier in the week. This change came after Russell Wilson’s continued struggles on the field.

“I’m excited to take another step with this team and do everything I can to win the game,” he expressed earlier this week.

Before the season began, Dart was positioned as the backup quarterback behind Wilson, and the team had signed him to a one-year deal in March.

The Giants also added Jameis Winston to their quarterback roster during free agency. Winston, 31, now takes on the role of third quarterback, while Wilson, at 36, continues with the team.

Wilson, who played for the Steelers last season, mentioned on Wednesday his determination to “focus on winning” in his new position.

“I want to be here. I love this organization and the whole process. The guys in the locker room mean a lot to me. I’m not giving up on this season,” he told the media.

One of the biggest stories of the season has been the Giants’ decision to start Wilson despite Dart’s impressive preseason performance.

During the three preseason games, Dart threw three touchdowns without any interceptions, also rushing for another touchdown.

In August, the Dart family was in Buffalo to support him during his first preseason game, where mom Kara was particularly visible.

Kara gained some fame during the NFL Draft when she was shown on camera as the Giants selected Dart in the first round, following their choice of standout linebacker Abdul Carter as their third overall pick.

Going into the game against the Chargers, who were 3-0, the Giants were still seeking their first win of the season, sitting at 0-3.
