Officer points gun at Terence Crawford during a tense traffic stop: video

Boxer Terrence Crawford found himself in a tense situation when he was detained at gunpoint by an Omaha police officer, an incident captured on video.

The Omaha Police Department has confirmed that there will be an internal investigation regarding the traffic stop that led to the incident, which emerged online and featured a 38-year-old officer brandishing a firearm.

Footage shows officers instructing Crawford, who is originally from Omaha, to exit his vehicle. He was recently celebrated during a Championship Parade just hours before the incident. At one point, he raised his hands in the air and said, “I’m not reaching for anything without a gun.”

The police acknowledged that both Omaha Mayor John Ewing and Police Chief Todd Schmadeler were aware of the video circulating on social media related to Crawford’s traffic stop early Sunday morning. Chief Schmadeler has approved the internal review.

Prior to 1:30 AM, officers noticed a vehicle being driven recklessly near Capitol Avenue and initiated a traffic stop on Cass Street.

During the encounter, police reportedly saw a firearm on the driver’s floorboard, prompting them to instruct everyone in the vehicle to exit for safety reasons. Crawford was later identified as the driver through a verification of his driver’s license. Additionally, a member of his security team was found to be carrying a legally permitted firearm.

Authorities have affirmed that all individuals involved are allowed to carry firearms. Police supervisors and the emergency unit were dispatched to the scene at Crawford’s request.

This video came to light just after Crawford appeared at the Championship Parade, not long after his highly-publicized win against Canelo Alvarez, which took place in Las Vegas on September 13th.

Crawford chose not to comment on the episode when approached by TMZ.

With an impressive record of 42 wins and 31 knockouts, Crawford is recognized as one of the top pound-for-pound boxers globally and is widely regarded as the finest of his generation. He currently holds the title of undisputed super middleweight champion.
