Tyler Robinson Appears in Court for Charlie Kirk’s Assassination Case

A Utah court hearing was held on Monday regarding Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old charged with the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. This appearance was conducted via livestream.

Robinson faces aggravated murder charges, and prosecutors are reportedly seeking the death penalty. The hearing was primarily procedural, focusing on appointing legal representation and reviewing evidence, rather than the details of the charges. His attorney mentioned that there is a significant amount of evidence involved in the case.

In Utah, defendants can choose to waive a preliminary hearing and move directly to arraignment to enter a plea. Although Robinson participated virtually, his legal team requested to keep his video feed off, allowing him to only engage through audio while the screen remained black.

His newly appointed defense lawyer, Kathryn Nester, who brings over three decades of experience, asked for additional time to review the evidence before moving forward with a preliminary hearing. Nester stressed the importance of thoroughly evaluating all materials to ensure a fair defense. This prompted Judge Tony Graf of the Fourth District Court to reassure that Robinson’s rights will be upheld.

As the case progresses, Robinson remains in custody. The next hearing is scheduled for October 30, 2025, where he is expected to appear in person.
