Politico is facing scrutiny as some of its reporters, particularly Cheyanne Daniels, have criticized President Donald Trump on social media, a situation that has resurfaced amid ongoing coverage of his presidency. Daniels, who joined Politico in May as a Breaking News reporter, previously spent three years as a political reporter on Capitol Hill.
A report from the Washington Free Beacon highlighted her past social media activity from 2016, where she expressed strong feelings about Trump’s election, stating, “I don’t deserve a racist, homophobic, sexist, misogynistic president.”
Interestingly, in 2020, she revealed that she cried upon learning about Trump’s victory four years prior, while feeling joy at Joe Biden’s win. She shared her emotional response, saying, “When I realized that Donald Trump was elected… I cried. Now I’m in my apartment in DC… hearing people cheering that he was defeated.”
Daniels reflected on how over 70 million voters supported Trump, expressing concern that some felt her existence as a Black woman was a threat to white supremacy. This highlights the complex layers of emotion and division surrounding political topics.
On inauguration day in 2021, she also celebrated the transfer of Trump’s official social media accounts to Biden’s team, questioning, “What did the Magats say in 2016?”
According to the Free Beacon, Daniels has been involved in significant stories recently, such as the White House’s response to potential government shutdowns and efforts regarding the Russian-Ukraine conflict. After inquiries were made by the outlet, Daniels reportedly locked her X account, though neither she nor Politico has commented on the situation.
