Eric Dane promises to struggle until the very end following his ALS diagnosis

Eric Dane’s Battle with ALS

Actor Eric Dane, known for his role in “Euphoria,” has made a heartfelt commitment to “fight the final breath” in his battle against ALS. During a recent meeting with Representative Frank Pallone in Washington, D.C., he shared insights about his health as part of his involvement with the nonprofit organization I’m ALS.

Accompanied by members of the organization, Dane spoke about his experiences following his ALS diagnosis in April. He expressed frustration over the lengthy diagnosis process, mentioning that it often delays patients from participating in crucial clinical trials.

“ALS is really the last thing anyone wants to hear,” Dane noted. He emphasized the importance of initiatives like ALS’s ACT, which seeks to broaden access for patients.

ALS, a rare degenerative condition that leads to the progressive loss of muscle control, affects neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Originally referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease after the legendary baseball player diagnosed with it in the 1930s, the disease remains a significant health challenge.

Dane, who has two daughters—15-year-old Billy and 13-year-old Georgia—with his wife, Rebecca Gayhart, shared his aspirations for the future. “I want to see my daughters graduate from college, get married, and have kids,” he said. “I want to be there for all those moments. So I’m going to fight with all I have.”

Dane revealed his diagnosis back in April and expressed gratitude for the support of his family during this difficult time. “As I navigate this next chapter, I feel fortunate to have my loved ones by my side,” he remarked.

Despite the challenges he faces with ALS, Dane continues to film the upcoming season of “Euphoria.” He stated, “I can keep working and am excited to go back to the set soon. I just ask for privacy for my family during this time.”

The actor portrays Cal Jacobs, the father of Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi. Dane and Gayhart married in 2004, but she filed for divorce in 2018. Interestingly, just a month before his ALS announcement, she withdrew the divorce petition.
