Fantasy Football Update: Week 5 Insights
Welcome to the fifth week of the fantasy football season. In Week 4, we saw a resurgence among some veteran quarterbacks who climbed back to the top of the scoring charts. Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, and Patrick Mahomes took the lead, collectively throwing 10 touchdowns and adding one more on the ground, despite also facing a few interceptions. It seems like the classic pocket passer is making a comeback.
Looking at the teams, we have the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, and Pittsburgh Steelers as notable mentions. As for the players, Caleb Williams, Michael Penix Jr., Jordan Love, and Aaron Rodgers are names to keep an eye on.
Injury news is also shaping the upcoming games. Lamar Jackson had to return early during his game against the Chiefs due to a hamstring injury, which puts his status for Week 5 against the Texans in jeopardy. There’s a chance Cooper Rush might step in, especially given the Texans’ strong defense.
Then there’s McCarthy, who’s out for at least two games due to an ankle injury. The team seems committed to giving him ample time to recover, with a potential return in Week 7. For the time being, Carson Wentz holds the starting position.
As for Purdy, he faced a toe injury during his match against the Jaguars in Week 4, and unfortunately, he was listed as a Did Not Practice on Monday. It seems he might need some additional rest before facing the Rams on Thursday, which opens the door for McJones to start.
Jaden Daniels’ Situation
Daniels only managed to practice on Wednesday and Thursday last week, then missed out on Friday. After his limited practice, the medical team didn’t clear him, so he was shelved for a bit. However, he mentioned that he feels good, leaving the door slightly ajar for participation this week, although the doctors still have their reservations.
Now, looking at the matchup predictions:
- Bills vs. Patriots (50.5)
- Bengals vs. Lions (48.5)
- Commanders vs. Chargers (48.5)
- Colts vs. Raiders (47.5)
- Jets vs. Cowboys (47.5)
On the flip side, some matchups predicted to have lower totals include:
- Browns vs. Vikings (36.5)
- Titans vs. Saints (41.5)
- Cardinals vs. Titans (41.5)
Highest and Lowest Team Totals
Teams with the highest implied totals are:
- Bills (29.5)
- Lions (29)
- Colts (27)
- Rams (26)
- Chargers (25.5)
On the other hand, the teams expected to struggle include:
- Titans (16.5)
- Browns (16.5)
- Bengals (19)
Player Spotlight: Justin Fields
In terms of individual performances, Justin Fields is set to start against the Cowboys. He’s been quite impressive, especially his rushing ability, which puts him among the top five quarterbacks, particularly going against weaker defenses.
Player Spotlight: Jackson Dart
Unfortunately, Jackson Dart’s fantasy outlook took a hit when Malik Nabers suffered an ACL injury in Week 4. Without Nabers, Dart may not rank as a top 12 fantasy quarterback, but his rushing ability in a favorable matchup against the Saints could prove beneficial. New Orleans has struggled against quarterbacks this season, allowing nine touchdowns and generally not managing to keep things in check.
