Best 100 standard wide receivers for fantasy football in Week 5

NFL Week 5 Overview

Here we are, diving into week five of the NFL season. Before we look ahead, let’s quickly recap some highlights from last week concerning the top standard receivers. Puka Nacua emerged as a standout in PPR leagues, racking up 13 receptions and scoring two touchdowns, which totaled 170 yards. However, when it came to standard scoring, he finished as a WR3, trailing behind George Pickens and Romeo Doubs, who made their mark during the intense Cowboys-Packers tie. Pickens secured a couple of touchdown catches alongside Doubs’ three, but his 76 yards helped him snag the crown for week four.

One notable discrepancy between PPR and Standard scoring was Justin Jefferson. He had 10 receptions for 126 yards, yet found himself ranked as WR16 in the standard leagues, while he clocked in at WR8 in PPR formats. It’s tricky to predict touchdowns, honestly—it often feels like a gamble. Still, keeping an eye on red zone targets tends to offer some insight. For now, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Davante Adams, and George Pickens lead the charge in red zone targets, which is definitely worth noting.

On another note, Titans wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhene is currently 9th in red zone targets, boasting five receptions this season with a modest yard total of 1 yard. His pickup doesn’t seem essential, but it’s interesting to consider how he’s utilized. He’s even carried the ball six times for 27 yards, which, you know, adds a layer to his gameplay.

Reflecting on some teams, we have the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, and Pittsburgh Steelers mentioned. Players like Roma Odunze, DJ Moore, Luther Burden III, and others are running the field, each contributing to their teams in various ways.

Injuries are, unfortunately, part of the game. Tyreek Hill suffered a significant knee injury, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. This opens the door for Jaylen Waddle and De’Von Achane to boost their fantasy value. If Darren Waller can stay healthy, his two-touchdown performance in the season debut suggests he’ll remain impactful. However, with Hill out, Westbrook-Ikhene is stepping in, which might not be a necessary replacement, but still worth watching.

This week has also seen two season-ending injuries, and while that’s tough for the players, it often shifts the fantasy landscape. Onedale Robinson, for instance, finds himself needing to step up, especially after the injury to his teammate, which could mean more valuable plays for him. His increased role with two-receiver and three-receiver sets is what you’d ideally want from a fantasy asset.

Moving to the injury front, Pearsall injured his knee during the game against the Jaguars. Luckily, it doesn’t seem severe, so there’s a chance he could play this week, although it might be a challenge given the Thursday night game. Jauan Jennings also has a rib injury; it marks his third injury this season already. He managed to keep playing, and Kendrick Bourne saw a spike in snaps, while DeMarcus Robinson became more prominent once Pearsall left the game. If Pearsall can’t go, Jennings could be the main fantasy option for wide receivers, assuming he’s fit.

Meanwhile, Lamb has an ankle sprain from the third week, which could keep him out for a few weeks. The hope is that he might return sooner than expected, though he’ll definitely be on the sidelines for a bit. With him out, George Pickens had a great game and should continue to perform strongly as Lamb recovers.

Terry McLaurin – Commanders

McLaurin faced a quad injury during the game against the Raiders in week three. His situation isn’t clear, but for now, he’s expected to miss some time, although he hasn’t been placed on IR yet.

As for Evans, he strained his hamstring in the third week and could be looking at three to four weeks out. Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka are expected to step up while he’s absent.

Now, looking at some upcoming matchups. The Bills take on the Patriots with an implied total of 50.5, while the Bengals face the Lions with a total of 48.5. The Commanders are up against the Chargers, also at 48.5, followed by the Colts against the Raiders at 47.5, and the Jets play the Cowboys at 47.5.

In contrast, the Browns battle the Vikings with a lower total of 36.5, while the Titans and Saints match up at 41.5, as do the Cardinals and Titans.

Team Totals

Looking at individual team totals, the highest so far includes the Lions (29.5), alongside the Colts (27), Rams (26), and Chargers (25.5).

Lowest Team Totals

On the flip side, the Titans and Browns are sitting low at 16.5, with the Bengals slightly higher at 19.

As we gear up for the week ahead, these stats and insights could change quickly. It’s a rollercoaster ride, like always in the NFL.
