Federal Judge Disqualifies Chatta from Legal Representation
A federal judge has ruled that Sigal Chatta, an attorney representing the Nevada district, is disqualified from her role due to her involvement in several legal cases. The ruling states that her participation is deemed illegal if she is not acting as a U.S. lawyer.
Signed by U.S. Senior District Judge David G. Campbell, the order indicates that Chatta is barred from either participating in or supervising the indictment of the defendant. The judge noted that while the defendant’s motion to oversee the prosecution’s disqualification of Chatta is granted, any efforts to dismiss the charges have been denied.
Political Reactions to Chatta’s Disqualification
Chatta, who took office as Nevada’s Attorney General in 2022 as a Republican, faces scrutiny from political figures. Democratic Senator Katherine Cortez Masto commented on social media, suggesting Chatta should resign from her position, emphasizing her ineligibility to serve as the U.S. attorney.
Chatta’s current pinned post on her X profile references conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated recently, displaying a message of solidarity by stating, “We’re all Charlie.”
