Vance Criticizes Democrats Over Health Care for Illegal Immigrants

During an interview with Fox & Friends, Vice President JD Vance criticized Democrats, claiming they aim to restore taxpayer-funded medical benefits for illegal immigrants. He asserted that such funding, which was eliminated during the Trump administration, is a focal point of the Democrats’ agenda.

Vance remarked, “They say, ‘We’re not actually trying to give medical benefits to illegal foreigners,’ and I think that’s simply not true.” He pointed out that two programs from the Biden era specifically provided taxpayer-funded healthcare to individuals without legal status, which were then halted when Trump took office.

The Vice President explained that the first of these programs delivered emergency medical care to illegal immigrants in hospitals. He added, “Of course, we’re going to end that funding because we shouldn’t be taxing American citizens to support services for illegal foreigners.” He further noted that tighter regulations were introduced under Trump to control federal payments for emergency care.

Additionally, Vance highlighted a second program that offered significant parole to many illegal immigrants, while also allowing those parolees access to taxpayer-funded healthcare. He stated that the “Big Beautiful Bill” redefined eligibility for these benefits, limiting access for certain groups that had previously qualified under the Affordable Care Act.

“In this bill, Trump and Congressional Republicans redirected money into healthcare funding for illegal foreigners,” Vance said. He stressed that the Democrats now, in discussions over funding the federal government, seem ready to reinstate such measures.

Vance argued that as negotiations for reopening the government proceed, Democrats included funding for healthcare benefits for illegal immigrants in their proposals—something he finds incredulous. “So, it’s not like we made this up. It’s right there in the text of what they want to do,” he pointed out.

While Vance acknowledged the pressing need to negotiate and reopen the government, he remained firm on the stance against supporting healthcare benefits for undocumented individuals. However, he expressed a willingness to collaborate with Democrats on reducing healthcare costs for American citizens if the opportunity arises.
