More than 8,000 Students Gather to Worship Christ at University of Tennessee Revival Event

University of Tennessee Hosts Massive Revival Event

On Tuesday evening, thousands of students gathered on the University of Tennessee campus for an event lifting the name of Jesus. This gathering is part of a revival movement that started at Auburn University two years ago and has since spread to approximately 20 colleges nationwide. The UNITE US event attracted over 8,000 attendees, during which 500 individuals made commitments to Christ, and many were baptized in portable tanks, cheered on by their friends.

Similar to other Unite Us events, this one featured video messages from local athletes and coaches. Rick Burns, the head basketball coach, urged students in a recent series of promotions, “Bring your friends and fill this place.” He added, “It’s time to do that; it’s time for that resurrection,” referring to Jesus.

Basketball players Nate Ement and Kade Phillips also participated in promoting the event, with Ement—who could be a top draft pick in the 2026 NBA Draft—inviting everyone to “come and worship Jesus.”

The worship portion of the event was led by Elevation Worship, a contemporary Christian music group known for its energetic performances.

On social media, sentiments expressed that “Jesus is moving towards Gen Z, and this is just the beginning.” Various studies indicate that this generation is increasingly open to spiritual matters. For instance, a report from April highlighted that the percentage of Gen Z men committed to Jesus grew from 52% in 2019 to 67% in 2025, while for women, it increased from 54% to 61%. Moreover, a study from September revealed that Gen Z individuals are attending church nearly twice a month on average.

Commenting on the younger generation’s thirst for authenticity, Troutt remarked that they are “hungry for truth, they’re hungry for freedom,” and are seeking something more meaningful than what the world provides—since many feel a sense of emptiness. “They keep getting shorter,” Troutt noted, explaining that many feel they’ve been fed lies about their identities.

The next Unite US event is scheduled for November 21 at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
