Albert Pujols: A Potential Manager for the Angels

There’s talk that Albert Pujols could be in line for the managerial role with the Angels. It seems he’s “considered a strong candidate” for the position, as reported recently.

John Heyman mentioned that Pujols is set for an initial interview on Wednesday.

The Angels are undergoing some leadership changes after announcing they won’t renew Ron Washington’s contract for the 2026 season.

Washington has been absent from the team since June due to health issues, including heart surgery.

The team’s interim manager, Ray Montgomery, is expected to return next season, which opens the door for Pujols and other possible candidates.

Having played a decade with the Angels, Pujols appears to have the support of team owner Arte Moreno.

A source indicated that “Pujols could indeed be the choice” for the managerial position.

Since retiring in 2022, Pujols has been involved with the Angels organization, kicking off a personal service contract with the team.

Managing has always been on his radar, and he’s previously taken on roles in the Dominican Winter League.

Stepping into this managerial role would be a significant chapter in a career that many deem Hall of Fame-worthy.

Pujols stands out in MLB history, being one of only seven players to reach both 700 home runs and 3,000 hits.

However, the new manager will face a challenging job. The Angels have struggled, finishing under .500 for the last ten seasons and not securing a postseason win since 2014.

Since Mike Scioscia’s era ended in 2018, the team has gone through four different managers.

In 2025, the Angels wrapped up the season with a record of 72-90, starting with a 36-38 run before Washington’s departure.
