Delta Airlines Jets Collide at LaGuardia Airport
Two Canadair jets operated by Endeavor Air, a subsidiary of Delta Airlines, were involved in a collision on a taxiway at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Wednesday night. This incident occurred around 9:58 PM, involving two CRJ-900 regional jets.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey reported that one jet was preparing for takeoff while the other had just arrived. A spokesperson from Delta confirmed that one flight attendant sustained minor injuries and was treated by EMTs before being taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary measures. Fortunately, no passengers were injured.
Delta labeled the incident as a “slow-speed collision” involving flight 5155 bound for Roanoke, Virginia, and flight 5047 that had arrived from Charlotte, North Carolina.
“The Delta team at LaGuardia is addressing customer needs after the incident,” a Delta representative stated. They are collaborating with relevant authorities, promising to prioritize the safety of everyone involved and expressing regret over the situation.
Preliminary details suggest that the wings of the departing aircraft made contact with the arriving jet’s fuselage. Passengers were later transported back to Terminal C by bus, where Delta provided food, drinks, and accommodations for those whose travel plans were affected.
The Port Authority confirmed that the incident did not disrupt airport operations. Delta plans to work with the FAA, NTSB, and the Port Authority to investigate the situation further, reiterating that customer safety is their primary concern.
This story is still developing, so updates are expected.
