Keith Urban Hints at Struggles in Marriage with Nicole Kidman
Keith Urban suggested that he and Nicole Kidman might not be the flawless couple some perceive them to be during a past interview.
In a discussion with a reporter from the Times in September 2024, Urban seemed to become quite defensive when Kidman was brought up. According to journalist Ed Potton, Urban expressed a desire to avoid headlines that revolve around his wife.
“I don’t want to give you guys headlines about your wife,” the Grammy Award-winning singer stated. During the interview, he was talking about his struggles with addiction, particularly an intervention arranged by Kidman shortly after they wed in 2009.
Urban explained, “Before you know it, the interview would end up being ‘My wife saved my life,’ and I don’t want to go there.” He did, however, acknowledge the importance of sharing a background with Kidman, saying it was beneficial for their relationship.
“I think being in another field could also be just as advantageous,” he added.
Urban openly expressed pride in Kidman’s accomplishments, yet, when asked about her Oscar-winning career, he once more sidestepped the topic. “Very well,” he remarked, but reiterated that they have had enriching conversations about their careers without delving into personal matters.
“I love giving one more swing at the end of this conversation to see if we’re going to talk about our wife,” he commented, clearly uncomfortable with the line of questioning.
Despite attempts to engage him on the subject, Urban remained firm: “I’m not going to talk about her.”
While Urban did not immediately respond to requests for comments, news broke a year later that their nearly two-decade marriage had ended. Sources indicated that the couple had begun to separate earlier in the summer.
Kidman, who filed for divorce recently, is reportedly “sad but moving forward.” She was seen hiking in Nashville with her sister shortly after the news broke.
Rumors have also been circulating in Nashville regarding Urban possibly seeing someone else. A video surfaced of him adjusting the lyrics to his song “Fighter” during a performance, seemingly in tribute to a recent relationship.
Additionally, a resurfaced interview from September on Australia’s Gold 101.7 station showcased Urban’s discomfort when discussing his romance with Kidman, leading him to awkwardly shift away from the topic. He simply told the interviewer to “move on,” effectively putting an end to the conversation.
