Hardy Reflects on Tour Bus Accident and Its Lasting Impact
In a recent episode of the podcast “Nashville Now,” country singer Hardy, age 35, opened up about a traumatic bus accident that profoundly affected his life and mental health. He was candid about the experience that not only landed him in the hospital but also shaped his perspective on mortality.
“I was in a tour bus accident a few years ago, and since then, it’s made me really aware of death,” he shared, referencing his album “Country! Country!” which touches on these themes.
Hardy, whose full name is Michael Wilson Hardy, recounted that in 2022, he and three others were involved in a tragic bus accident near Nashville. A quick pit stop made him notice something was off with the driver. “I asked him, ‘Are you okay?’ and he reassured me, but just a few miles later, he suffered a medical emergency while driving, which caused the bus to roll over multiple times,” he explained.
He described the chaotic scene post-accident, recalling, “The bus turned into a scene straight out of a movie. I could barely see what was happening as vehicles whizzed by.” Despite the wreckage, all four individuals survived but sustained significant injuries.
A year later, Hardy faced a new battle. He found himself in the hospital due to severe panic attacks triggered by the traumatic event. “I really need to be upfront here,” he had posted on Instagram at the time. “The anxiety from last year’s accident has been something I’ve struggled with, but I’m trying to take control of my life again.”
Hardy continued, explaining the toll the experience took on him: “It’s impacted my mental health significantly, and I need to focus on healing for my loved ones and my fans.” Over time, he has engaged in various treatments, including EMDR therapy, to manage his mental health.
“After everything, I’m not embarrassed to talk about it. It was overwhelming, and I know many men struggle with similar issues but don’t feel comfortable sharing,” he reflected. His openness about his journey adds a personal touch that resonates with many, reminding us how fragile life can be.
