Debate on Healthcare for Immigrants Heats Up
On Thursday, “Fox and Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones addressed Senator Jeanne Shaheen from New Hampshire. He claimed that Democrats are not in favor of offering medical benefits to undocumented immigrants.
A partial government shutdown began at 12:01 AM EDT on Wednesday after the Senate could not approve a seven-week continuous resolution on Tuesday. Although the House passed the Short-Term Financing Act on September 19, it wasn’t enough to secure the 60 votes required to bypass a Democratic filibuster.
During her segment, Shaheen stated, “No one has heard of anyone saying that illegal immigrants should access the health insurance market.” In response, Jones expressed appreciation for her remark. He emphasized, “I’m glad you mentioned that. In fact, this is part of what your Democratic tapes indicate.”
A clip was shown featuring Savannah Guthrie, host of “Today,” questioning Democratic candidates about their stance on illegal immigration during the 2020 presidential campaign. Guthrie posed a question about government healthcare plans for undocumented immigrants in a June 2019 discussion. She asked candidates to raise their hands if they supported such measures, leading to a unanimous response from the crowd.
Jones pointed out, “Senator, it’s literally every member of your party, ranging from moderate to progressive, who has said this before.”
In a heated exchange with reporters on Tuesday, California Democrat Maxine Waters seemed to confirm that her party is fighting for healthcare benefits for undocumented immigrants. Vice President JD Vance mentioned on “Fox and Friends” that Democrats are looking to reinstate a Biden-era program that “explicitly allocated taxpayer healthcare funds for illegal aliens.”
Vance clarified, “This isn’t something we devised. It’s not just a talking point; it’s part of the text in the initial bill they provided for government reopening.”
