Sean “Diddy” Combs Scheduled to Speak at Sentencing Hearing
Sean “Diddy” Combs will have the opportunity to appear in court without being in prison for his sentencing hearing on October 3. This will mark the first time he has addressed the court regarding the charges for which he was convicted during an eight-week trial.
A letter submitted on Diddy’s behalf states that the outcome of the trial is of significant importance to him. He wishes to express himself to the judge in a respectful manner. “He wants to enter the court with his head held high,” the letter emphasized.
Diddy was found guilty on July 2 of charges related to facilitating prostitution, which included both assault and sex trafficking. Depending on the outcome of the sentencing, he faces up to 10 years in prison, and potentially 20 years for each conviction. The prosecution has suggested a sentence of 135 months, which is just over 11 years.
Previously, Judge Arun Subramanian denied Diddy’s request for a new trial. He stated that the evidence presented by the prosecution was compelling and demonstrated Diddy’s guilt. “The government has proven its case multiple times,” the judge noted. This perspective makes it challenging for Diddy’s legal team to argue otherwise.
Prosecutors have argued that a significant prison sentence is warranted, noting that Diddy hasn’t shown remorse for his actions as recommended in the submitted documents. “It’s striking that the defendant has acknowledged his violent behavior during the trial, yet he contends that his victim should take responsibility,” they stated.
Diddy’s legal team proposed a sentence of 14 months ahead of the October 3 hearing. They argue that the time he has already served—13 months—should be considered sufficient punishment for his actions.
