Authorities Share Disturbing 911 Calls About Former NFL Player Rudi Johnson's Suicide

Emergency Services Audio Released Following Rudi Johnson’s Tragic Incident

Emergency services audio recordings have emerged from the 911 calls made during the distressing incident involving former Cincinnati Bengals player Rudi Johnson, who tragically took his own life last week.

Johnson passed away on September 22 after reportedly jumping from his apartment balcony in Sunny Isles, Florida. Authorities indicated that he had been grappling with mental health struggles, along with potential effects related to CTE.

Recently, several 911 calls were made alerting law enforcement about the situation. One caller described, “There’s a building in front of me, I saw someone jump out… They jumped into the pool.” Another witness added, “There were people on the balcony, and someone was screaming for help as they fell.”

Another caller recounted hearing cries for help followed by a loud thud. They said, “We heard screaming and then a huge noise… people calling for help from the pool.” In total, police received five emergency calls related to the incident on September 22.

When first responders arrived, Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators concluded that there was no suspicion of foul play, and his death has been classified as a suicide.

Johnson was notably chosen as the Bengals’ 100th pick in the 2001 NFL Draft after an impressive career at Auburn, where he amassed 1,567 rushing yards and scored 13 touchdowns.

He stood out during his third season with Cincinnati, rushing for 957 yards and nine touchdowns, and consistently surpassed the 1,300-yard mark in subsequent years. Johnson played for the Bengals for seven of his eight NFL seasons, concluding his career with a final year in Detroit in 2008.

Following his passing, Bengals President Mike Brown paid tribute to Johnson, calling him a “great running back” who was not only dependable on the field but also well-liked by teammates, describing him as a cherished friend.
