Dave Chappelle Goes To Saudi Arabia To Criticize America

Dave Chapelle Speaks on Free Speech at Saudi Comedy Festival

During his performance at the Riad Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, Dave Chapelle addressed the state of free speech in the United States before an audience of about 6,000.

Chapelle criticized the current environment in America, stating, “In America now, if you talk about Charlie Kirk, they say it’s cancelled. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I’ll know.” He also remarked, “It’s easier to talk here than in America.”

Additionally, he commented on Israel’s actions in Gaza, which is quite a shift from the usual topics at a comedy show. Chapelle expressed concern about returning to the U.S., saying, “They are going to do something to me so that I can’t say what I want to say.”

He was among more than 50 performers participating in the festival, despite facing criticism for performing in a country with serious human rights concerns. Bill Barr, another comedian, showed his enthusiasm for being part of the event, highlighting the positive reception from the crowd.

“It was great to experience that part of the world and be part of Saudi Arabia’s first comedy festival,” Barr said on a podcast. He noted that the audience’s energy made it clear they were eager for real stand-up comedy, calling it one of his top experiences and suggesting it could lead to positive outcomes in the future.
