Kamala Harris Reflects on Campaign Challenges in New Memoir

In her latest memoir, Kamala Harris, the former Vice President, shares insights about her campaign struggles, particularly an incident involving a Zoom interview with YouTube personality Dr. Mike. According to Harris, just before the election, she felt her team hadn’t prepared her adequately.

After a brief exchange with Dr. Mike, she questioned her senior aide about the nature of the November 1, 2024, interview, which was initially framed as “a short one about RFK’s appointment.” However, Dr. Mike had different topics in mind, including healthcare costs and women’s health barriers.

Harris recounted her surprise, expressing thoughts like, “WTF?! This is clearly not ‘a short RFK thing.'” She described Dr. Mike as knowledgeable and engaged, noting that she felt blindsided by the depth of the interview. There wasn’t a proper briefing beforehand, leaving her frustrated as her team appeared unprepared.

Following the interview, another aide, Brian Fallon, attempted to clarify the situation, but Harris interrupted him, saying, “‘Brian,’ I said through my crushed teeth.” It seemed clear she was not at all pleased with how things were handled.

Dr. Mike later commented on social media about the interview. In a subsequent release, Harris voiced her concerns about RFK, stating she aimed to win and prevent any potential influence from him in a future Trump administration. Ultimately, Trump won the election, and RFK took on a role as the director of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Harris faced criticism for her memoir, which some reviewers, including from progressive sources, found unhelpful and divisive. She also disclosed a controversial decision regarding former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who sought to be her running mate. Harris acknowledged that she considered the “risk” too great due to his sexual orientation.

Reflecting on this, she noted, “If I had been a straight white guy, I would have been an ideal partner.” She felt the country was already making significant strides in accepting diversity and that this added complexity to their situation.
