Garrett Wilson’s Commitment to the Jets

Garrett Wilson didn’t have to extend his contract. He wasn’t obliged to solidify that four-year, $130 million agreement with the Jets ahead of training camp.

However, by doing so, the talented receiver was clear about his desire to be part of a brighter future for the franchise.

Even though the team has started the season with four losses, Wilson remains steadfast in his commitment.

“I love this place, man,” he expressed on Thursday. “These fans have supported me since my college days. This is where I want to play. I want to win here.”

Wilson has had a strong start to the season, with 27 catches and three touchdowns for 311 yards. He aims to secure his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season as he begins his career, a milestone yet to be achieved by any Jets receiver during his initial years in the NFL.

He believes there is a glimmer of hope at the end of what he metaphorically calls a “Dark Jets Tunnel.” It’s not an approaching train, but a sense that a breakthrough is coming for the team.

Wilson sees a vision with new coach Aaron Glenn, even if tangible results have yet to come.

“I have faith in the plans my coach has laid out for us, and I trust my teammates,” said Wilson, 25. “We can turn this around, and when we do, it’ll feel really good.”

Despite facing difficulties at the start of this season and throughout his time with the Jets—where the record stands at 19-36 over his first three years—he holds onto hope.

“I truly believe in what everyone has been striving for over the years and the battles we’re fighting to overcome. We know what our general manager and staff are planning,” Wilson said.

The Jets confront multiple uncertainties regarding their future, yet Wilson seems to be their pillar as the number one wide receiver.

“I hope to be remembered as someone who takes pride in being part of the change,” Wilson remarked. He wants others in the league to respect the way he plays the game.
