Pittsburgh Pirates Fan Charged After Late-Night Incident at Ex’s Home

A 21-year-old Pittsburgh Pirates fan, Kavan Markwood, faces charges after allegedly wandering around his ex-girlfriend’s house in the early hours of Sunday. This incident follows a dramatic fall he took earlier in the year at PNC Park, where he plunged 21 feet.

According to Brentwood police, they received a call around 3:30 AM about Markwood trying to gain entry to his former partner’s home. Witnesses reported that he was “strongly” knocking at the front door.

Police were informed that Markwood had been sending persistent text messages regarding a vehicle that was parked outside her residence, suggesting he might have been monitoring her relationship with another man.

When authorities found him a short distance from his car, they detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, which raised some concerns.

Markwood has been charged with a misdemeanor for prowling at night. In light of these accusations, he has publicly denied any wrongdoing. “That’s not why I was there,” he stated, adding a somewhat cryptic comment about overcoming challenges this year.

While he didn’t go into detail about his motivations for being at his ex’s home, Markwood indicated he would eventually clarify his presence when he appears in court. Civil court documents reveal that his ex-girlfriend had previously filed for a restraining order against him, citing harassment and property damage, which raised red flags regarding Markwood’s behavior.

Markwood’s preliminary hearing is set for November 18th. In a notable twist, he recently garnered attention after being celebrated by fans while throwing the first pitch at a Pirates game on September 20th. Just weeks prior, he had a viral moment following his severe fall during a game that left him with multiple injuries including broken ribs and a fractured neck.

Reflecting on the aftermath of that fall, he admitted it has been a struggle. “There were a lot of my PTSD that fell off the wall,” he shared, emphasizing the ongoing personal battles he faces. Remembering details from the game leading up to the incident is cloudy – he recalls only snippets before waking up in the hospital days later.
