Carle Place junior aims high in sports in multiple aspects

A standout in her field, Carle Place junior Madison Leedy has achieved straight A’s while excelling as a three-sport varsity athlete. She recently made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse at Northwestern University.

“Sure, there have been some nerves here and there, but I think giving it my all and managing my aggression really helps pave the way for success,” Leedy shared, mentioning her involvement in Frog Football during winter. “Time management can be tough at times, but you find a way to make it work. You’re exhausted, sure, but somehow you manage to get everything done,” she added, reflecting on her busy routine at just 16.

Finding Balance

Playing both football and lacrosse as a midfielder, along with being a point guard in basketball, has sometimes placed Leedy’s family dynamics under pressure, especially when things get tricky. She often turns to her mother Tara for guidance; Tara played field hockey and lacrosse at Hofstra in the early 2000s.

Leedy expressed, “I’m always curious about what my mom experienced, and her advice keeps pushing me forward.” Her recent visit to the Chicago campus struck a chord, and she quickly fell in love with Northwestern.

“My parents always encourage me to keep striving for great things,” she noted, appreciating their support along with that of her younger sister Tyler, who is also on the varsity soccer team.

The siblings often head to school early for lacrosse training before embarking on their regular classes, followed by afternoon practices, even through chilly winter mornings.

“We have our moments of competition, but we also support each other. Sometimes I remind her that it’s special to have someone who understands what you’re going through,” Leedy reflected. “I think my accomplishments motivate her too. I feel very grateful for that.”

Chasing Goals

As an 11th grader, it’s quite a feat for Leedy to manage her early college commitments while remaining at the top of her class. Science has piqued her interest the most.

The varsity soccer team has seen significant support from her, especially as they celebrated a recent victory against Wheatley, with Leedy stepping up as a leadership figure.

Hitting the Long Island title and aiming for a state championship before graduating in 2027 means the world to her.

“I’m looking to score 100 career goals in lacrosse this season. I’m currently at 89,” she mentioned with determination. “I hope to reach 200 by the end of my senior year.”
