Delaware Republicans criticize University of Delaware for hosting Charlie Kirk comedy show

Delaware Republicans have voiced their concerns regarding a student comedy show at the University of Delaware, which featured a joke about Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA). Nick Miles, an executive at the Delaware GOP, took to social media to address the issue after the show’s credits thanked “Chatp GPT (SIC), Charlie Kirk’s Killer.” This segment aired during the second episode of “The Bieekly Show,” a student-produced comedy sketch program broadcast on the university’s student television network, STN49.

Once students became aware of the controversial credits, they promptly removed them and re-uploaded the episode. Miles mentioned that the university’s Ministry of Communications ordered this action. He expressed frustration, stating, “The only thing accountability is concealment,” and questioned the oversight of faculty involved in a university-funded program that would allow such content.

The opening line of the show included a reference that was at best tasteless, comparing it to Charlie’s situation. The university later clarified its position, denouncing the “deeply offensive and insensitive language” present in the credits of the live comedy show. They noted that after the broadcast, station members quickly recognized the impact of the offensive language and opted to remove the credits within hours.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the university emphasized that it does not condone language that diminishes human life and reiterated its commitment to promoting respect and civility. They stressed the importance of dialogue surrounding the responsibilities that come with free expression.

The Delaware GOP has not yet responded to requests for comment but previously described the joke as “troubling.” Gene Truono, the chairman of the Delaware Republican Party and an alumnus of the university, expressed disappointment over the incident, recalling a time when students maintained a standard of respect that prevented such content from being aired. He called for an immediate investigation and transparency regarding the event.

The university intends to uphold values of respect and inclusivity while ensuring that taxpayer-supported institutions do not harbor political bias or calls for violence. Meanwhile, the production team of “The Bieekly Show” has not provided an official response regarding the incident.
