Diddy Sentenced in New York Court
Sean “Diddy” Combs faced a judge in Manhattan on Friday, receiving a 50-month sentence for a serious sex crime conviction from the previous summer, as reported by NBC News.
During a lengthy hearing, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian indicated, “The government equates Sean Combs with a pimp. I want to make it clear: Mr. Combs is not a pimp.” Combs has been incarcerated since his arrest in September 2024, according to reports.
“You abused the power and control over a woman you claimed to love,” the judge stated. “You inflicted physical, emotional, and psychological harm.” In a moment of reflection, Combs expressed remorse, admitting to “disgusting, shameful” actions related to drugs and behavior that spiraled out of control.
He said, “I’m sick and tired of drugs. I was out of control and needed help. I couldn’t find it, and I couldn’t make excuses…” Combs pleaded for mercy in his address to the court, claiming, “I cannot change the past, but I can change the future. I want to be a father, son, and community leader again.”
While Combs was acquitted of sex trafficking and assault charges, he was found guilty of facilitating prostitution under the Federal Man Act. Eight men and four women were also implicated.
Judge Subramanian remarked that Combs showed no regret for his actions. Additionally, U.S. attorney Christy Slavick criticized Combs’ behavior, labeling it “hubris” and contrary to the rule of law.
Combs’ attorneys had requested a 14-month sentence, but prosecutors sought 135 months, while probation services recommended a sentence of just over seven years. Ultimately, the judge denied bail, leaving Combs to remain incarcerated.
In a heartfelt letter to the judge, Combs expressed sorrow for the harm caused, stating, “I’ve lost my way… My downfall was rooted in selfishness.” His defense team presented a nearly 12-minute video showcasing positive aspects of his life, including support letters from families and collaborators. However, notable criticism came from his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, who branded him an abuser uninterested in change.
During her testimony, Ventura mentioned past incidents of violence and described her own post-relationship struggles, including health issues stemming from abusive encounters. An unsettling video from 2016 captured a disturbing incident involving Combs.
In court, Combs publicly apologized to Ventura and her family, acknowledging the harm he inflicted.
