Former Ravens Defensive Lineman Arthur Jones Passes Away

Arthur Jones, a notable defensive lineman who played an integral role in the Baltimore Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII victory, has died at the age of 39, as confirmed by his former team on Friday.

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta expressed the team’s sorrow in a statement, saying, “We’re so sad to learn of Arthur Jones’ sudden passing.”

Jones made a significant mark during a game against the San Francisco 49ers where his sack and fumble recovery were pivotal in securing the Ravens’ second Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The game is particularly remembered for the blackout delay that occurred in the Superdome of New Orleans. Interestingly, Jones’ noteworthy plays occurred just before the power outage, setting up a touchdown in the second quarter for the Ravens.

“Arthur brought joy to everyone he encountered,” the statement highlighted further. “His bright smile, infectious enthusiasm, and unwavering positivity enriched the lives of those around him. He was genuinely kind and showed immense love for his family, teammates, and friends.”

Jones had strong family ties in the sports world, being the brother of UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former New England Patriots player Chandler Jones.

Drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Jones started 20 games over four seasons with the Ravens, finishing with a total of 8.5 sacks.

Later, he joined the Indianapolis Colts in 2014 and wrapped up his NFL career after a year with Washington in 2017, ending with a total of 10 sacks.
