Volunteers for mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani aren’t holding back when it comes to expressing their views about New York’s struggles.
Julian Segura, who previously ran for Congress as a Democrat, shared provocative images showing himself taking on 11 NYPD officers on September 26.
The post featured audio from N.W.A’s iconic 1988 song “F—k Tha Police,” with a caption stating, “All my buddies hate SRG.”
Segura, at 28, describes himself as a local political organizer devoted to empowering young leaders in New York.
He started backing Mamdani’s campaign in May and urged his social media followers to highlight Mamdani in recent mayoral primaries.
He also distributed Mamdani flyers in the lead-up to the Democratic primary and went door-to-door promoting him, according to insiders.
Last year, Segura ran for Manhattan’s 71st Congressional District, covering areas like Harlem and Inwood, but lost to incumbent Rep. Alfred Taylor.
Daniel Kruzina, Chief of Staff for Councillor Bob Holden (D-Maspeth), criticized Segura as a “grifter” lacking direction.
Kruzina commented, “His photos with the police show everything about his character and judgment. Among many subpar operatives, he manages to hit new lows in terms of irrelevance and incompetence.”
City Campaign Finance Committee records indicate that Segura does not hold a position on Mamdani’s staff.
On LinkedIn, Segura lists himself as a political strategist with campaign experience in New York City and Georgia.
On Friday, he expressed no regrets about his actions, stating that the officers are to blame for how he responds.
“I respect those who serve the public until they misuse their power,” Segura mentioned. “Undue federal oversight is something I find troubling.”
Mamdani’s campaign has yet to respond for comments.
