Agents Hit by Vehicles Near Chicago, Discharged 'Defensive Shots'

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported on Saturday morning that a federal agent in the Broadview area near Chicago was involved in an incident where he was “running into a vehicle and boxed in by 10 cars.”

In a post on X, DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin explained that after the agent was unable to move the vehicle, he exited and confronted one of the drivers who was armed with “semi-automatic weapons.” She mentioned that law enforcement had to use their own weapons and fire defensive shots.

“This morning, during my routine patrol in Broadview, where there was an earlier incident involving law enforcement, our dedicated officers faced a vehicle attack and were boxed in by 10 other cars,” McLaughlin stated. “The agent was stuck in his vehicle and one of the driver’s involved was armed with a semi-automatic weapon.”

McLaughlin stated that law enforcement personnel had to respond with their weapons when armed citizens, involved in the incident, took the wounded to hospitals.

She also noted that some individuals had been “named” in Customs and Border Protection’s Intelligence Breaking News for targeting agents previously, urging people to take action against them.

“Fortunately, none of our officers sustained serious injuries in this situation,” she added.

White House Vice Chief of Staff Stephen Miller responded to reports that had been described as “domestic terrorism and inflammatory riots.”

“Today, in Chicago, our courageous law enforcement personnel faced an attack. They were encircled and boxed in by ten vehicles, including those with semi-automatic weapons,” Miller shared on X. “I’m working on additional measures to manage the situation. Reinforcements are in place.”

ABC7 News reported that the Chicago Fire Department indicated a woman involved in the incident was hospitalized due to gunshot wounds.

The Chicago Fire Department confirmed that the woman was brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds, and her condition was said to be stable.

The DHS noted that the armed woman referenced was previously highlighted in Customs and Border Security Intelligence Breaking News for allegedly doxxing agents.

The report also mentioned that the “US Attorneys’ Office for the Northern District of Illinois” stated that “two individuals are in custody” related to the incident, though it remained unclear if the armed woman was among them.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker accused the Trump administration of nearly federalizing “300 members of the Illinois State Guard” to address recent attacks on federal officers in Chicago.

This announcement followed a previous DHS statement where the Department of War had requested around 100 service members to support the protection of US immigration and customs enforcement (ICE) agents and facilities in the city.
