Jordan Clarkson believes he can play an important role for the Knicks

Jordan Clarkson’s Journey in Basketball

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – Jordan Clarkson has an interesting tidbit in his basketball story: he played alongside both LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, all while sharing a name with the iconic Michael Jordan.

While he might possess a fraction of their confidence, Clarkson, unlike these basketball legends, has found his place coming off the bench, focusing on versatility over sheer dominance in the game.

“I can fit anywhere. Just put me anywhere in the world, and I’ll manage,” Clarkson mentioned in a recent interview. “That’s just who I am. I’m open to wherever I’m needed. The experience is what I enjoy most.”

He had his moments in Cleveland, stepping into a team that made it to three straight finals, giving him a taste of championship aspirations. His stint in Utah was equally fruitful, where he joined a squad that finished fifth in the West, helping them achieve first place within a couple of years.

Now, he’s contributing to a team that has its sights set on a championship after appearing in the 2025 conference finals.

After a couple of tough seasons with the Jazz that were marked by minimal playing time and losses, it’s refreshing for him. He’s aiming for a return to the playoffs.

“It’s a journey worth pursuing. If you want to reach those higher places, you need to put in the work,” said Clarkson, who scored seven points in the Knicks’ recent 113-104 preseason victory over the 76ers. “Each play carries a lot of weight. I truly want to get back there, so I’m taking it one day at a time, and that’s part of why I joined this team—to get into the playoffs and compete with a winning squad,” he explained.

Still, there are lingering questions about Clarkson’s performance after two challenging seasons at 33. These uncertainties may not be fully addressed until the regular season is well underway. However, his recent preseason games provided glimpses of both strengths and weaknesses.

  • He shot poorly from beyond the arc, going 1-for-6, with one airball in the first game.
  • However, he was aggressive and showed confidence with his two-point shots, hitting 63% of them.
  • He delivered a standout assist to Mitchell Robinson by breaking through the defense.
  • On the downside, he committed three turnovers in 28 minutes.

Reflecting on Clarkson’s journey, it feels a bit unpredictable. He seems to struggle to settle into a consistent role. After joining the Knicks in June, he had to adapt to a new coaching staff, yet he holds a belief that he can mesh with the team.

“They weren’t overhauling the entire roster,” Clarkson noted. “That’s why I already feel a connection with everyone here.”

Through it all, he remains optimistic, always trying to see the bright side.
