Utah Students Express Faith Amidst Concerns

Students in Utah remain committed to their beliefs, though they’ve voiced worries about potential attacks in the U.S. Recently, participants at a Turning Point USA event held at Utah State University shared their thoughts.

One attendee named Sam expressed sadness over what he sees as a battle between good and evil, stating that “extreme people, extreme people” often act based on their religious beliefs. Unfortunately, several church shootings have highlighted this fear, including a tragic event in Minneapolis that resulted in three fatalities and another shooting at a church in Lexington, Kentucky.

Students Refuse to Stay Silent

In light of the recent violence, including the murder of Charlie Kirk, students voiced their determination to continue expressing their faith despite safety concerns. Jacee noted that “faith is very attacked,” and referenced the rising hostility toward Christians. Similarly, student Jax agreed, stating, “I definitely think [faith is] under attack now.”

Jacob, another student, echoed these sentiments and connected the violence directly to the recent murders, including that of Kirk. He mentioned the frequency of such incidents, remarking, “It happens all the time… just by saying I can definitely get the evil, or the evil one.”

Nick added that while there is a perceived threat, he feels relatively safe in Utah, claiming that “God is in control of it.” Gavin expressed feelings of being targeted yet sees a resurgence of faith following recent events, noting that more people might return to church and engage in spiritual practices.

Another student, Tyler, maintained a more positive view, suggesting that faith in the U.S. may be growing stronger. “We’re becoming stronger as a community,” he stated, pleased to see more individuals turning to God.

A Resilient Community

Participants also shared how Turning Point USA encourages them to stand firm in their beliefs. Jacks admitted he isn’t typically outspoken but felt inspired to be bolder. Madison, who initially felt anxious after Kirk’s murder, found encouragement in her community, saying, “I started to feel like I wasn’t scared, so I’m here.”

Sam highlighted a memorial event for Kirk that focused on faith, remarking on the powerful testimonials about Jesus Christ’s impact on attendees’ lives. “It was amazing to talk about the Savior and how it affected their lives,” he reflected.
