Eric Dane promises to 'struggle until the end' against ALS during his trip to Washington

Eric Dane Vows to Fight ALS for His Family

Eric Dane recently conveyed his determination to “fight until my last breath” against ALS during discussions with politicians in Washington, D.C. last week.

“Getting diagnosed with ALS is something no one wants to hear. Unfortunately, it often keeps people from participating in clinical trials,” said 52-year-old Congressman Eric Swalwell in a TikTok video.

The actor, known for his role in “Euphoria,” was present at the Capitol to rally support from Congress.

Personal Reflections

“I have two daughters at home, and I want to be there to see them graduate from college, maybe get married, and eventually have grandkids, you know?” – Eric Dane

Dane emphasized his hopes of witnessing significant milestones in his daughters’ lives, expressing heartfelt sentiments about his family. He shares two daughters, Billy, 15, and Georgia, with his wife, Rebecca Gayhart.

He was seen in a wheelchair while departing from a D.C. airport. When asked by a photographer for a message to his supporters, Dane responded simply, “I will protect my faith.”

Dane revealed his diagnosis of ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, in April. This condition affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to potential muscle control loss, and it can cause serious complications in breathing and feeding.

Looking Ahead

In April, he shared, “I’ve been diagnosed with ALS. I’m thankful to have my beloved family by my side as I navigate through this chapter. I look forward to returning to the set of ‘Euphoria’ next week.”

More recently, Dane described a daunting experience while swimming with his daughter, realizing he no longer had the strength to swim back to their boat. “That day, when I jumped into the sea, I thought, ‘Oh, God.’ It hit me that I was no longer safe in the water,” he explained.

In an interview, he noted some of the struggles he’s faced, mentioning he has “one functional arm” and that his weakened right side might soon lose all function. Still, he’s open to extreme measures for treatment, even saying he’d travel to Germany for alternative therapies.

Family Support

Gayhart discussed their family journey through this tough diagnosis, mentioning the importance of therapy and finding hope amidst the challenges they face. “It’s heartbreaking to see, and we’re trying our best to get through this,” she reflected, conveying her deep concern for their children.

It’s clear that for Eric Dane, his fight against ALS is not just for himself but for every special moment he hopes to share with his family in the future.
