Jets’ Rookie Tackle Faces Series of Penalties in Loss

Armand Membou, the rookie right tackle for the Jets, has practically checked off every penalty on the offensive lineman bingo card in one game. During a loss to the Cowboys, he received flags for illegal man downfield, holding, false start, and offside.

Interestingly, he hadn’t been penalized in the first four games of the season.

After the game, Membou declined multiple requests for interviews and slipped out of the locker room with her headphones on.

Second-year tackle, Orfashanu, offered some supportive advice. “First and foremost, raise your chin,” he said. “He’s a rookie, so mistakes are bound to happen. You can’t dwell on it. Armand’s smart. He will learn from this.” He added, “I’ve been there as a rookie tackle. It’s a lot of pressure, but I think he’s doing a commendable job.”

As for the Jets, they racked up a total of 91 yards in penalties during the game, with 24 penalties over the past two games alone.

“You need to assess your own performance before pointing fingers at others,” mentioned Fashanu. “I know there are times I haven’t played up to my own standards.”

In a bit of a nostalgic turn, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who served as the Jets’ offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2011, achieved his first victory on the road in a familiar setting. He seemed unfazed by the significance of it, saying, “I’m not thinking about that, to be honest.”

Schottenheimer also recognized Jets security guard Bobby Mastrody and former Jets star Curtis Martin, stating, “These are the people I bleed. It was special to be in that locker room and celebrate with those guys.”

Meanwhile, rookie linebacker Kiko Mauigoa left the locker room wearing a walking boot on his left foot, which poses a problem for the Jets. He had recently moved from a special team role to a defensive starter due to injuries to Quincy Williams and Marcelino McCrary-Ball.

In another play during the game, rookie defensive end Tyler Baron missed a crucial tackle in the closing moments of the first half, allowing a lengthy 66-yard run to set up a scoring opportunity for the Cowboys. Baron reflected, “I should have made that play. It’s disappointing. Next time, I’ll be better prepared.”

The list of players inactive for the game included Jermaine Johnson, Michael Carter II, Kene Nwangwu, Esa Pole, Stone Smartt, Jelani Woods, and Leonard Taylor III.
