Demercado’s Mistake Overshadowed in Loss
Emari Demercado had a tough day on Sunday.
The Cardinals running back opened the game with a promising 72-yard run, but later fumbled when nearing the end zone, impacting the team’s momentum.
In the aftermath, footage captured coach Jonathan Ganon pacing fervently as he addressed his players. Offensive lineman Paris Johnson Jr. was seen supporting Demercado, yelling encouragement and giving him a motivational slap on the chest.
Despite the team’s lead of 28-6, Demercado was visibly upset, hanging his head as the Titans capitalized on the fumble.
Post-game, Demercado took full responsibility for the critical error.
“It’s just a mistake. No real excuse,” he said when reporters pressed him about the incident.
When asked about his sideline exchange with Ganon, Demercado hesitated, indicating perhaps a more complex conversation took place.
Demercado expressed, “It’s really that simple.” Meanwhile, Ganon maintained a composed tone in his post-game remarks.
“It’s not just one issue,” he remarked. “It’s disappointing, and I think we had several chances to correct things. I need to step up my game too.”
As the season progresses, with running back James Connor currently sidelined, Demercado’s opportunities have been limited. Former Jet Michael Carter led the backfield Sunday, even after starting the week on the practice squad.
Arizona also experimented with Bam Knight, who had a notably low carrying rate recently.
Given the loss, Demercado’s position on the team might be at risk as they prepare for upcoming games against the Colts and Packers.
