Greta Samberg to be Deported from Israel
Greta Samberg, a Swedish climate activist who has shown support for Hamas, is set to be deported from Israel on Monday following her second arrest for involvement in a “fleet” aimed at executing a lockdown on terrorist organizations.
Egypt and Israel have implemented a blockade on Gaza for years to stop Hamas from obtaining weapons, although the group has continued to smuggle arms and repurpose civilian supplies.
Samberg was detained last week after the Israeli Navy halted a number of boats that activists claimed were carrying what they termed “humanitarian assistance.”
Reports indicate that Samberg will join over 70 individuals from various countries who will be leaving Israel after being captured as part of a Gaza Aid Flotilla. Most of those released are expected to fly to Greece to arrange for flights back to their home nations.
In the meantime, a new fleet of nine ships organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition is anticipated to approach Gaza soon, likely to face interception by the Israeli Navy. This mission, which reportedly includes around 100 activists, departed from Italy about a week ago and is nearing the coast of Alexandria, Egypt, according to live tracking data.
After a previous arrest in June while involved with a different flotilla, Samberg stated that she was “invited” to Israel, contrasting with others who described their arrests as being forcibly “adjusted” by Israeli authorities in international waters.
In response to the South African government referring to flotilla detainees as “adductees,” a South African Jewish organization clarified that the real kidnappings concern hostages held by Hamas against Israelis in Gaza.
