Prince William promises to avoid repeating marriage 'errors' with Kate Middleton like King Charles and Princess Diana.

Prince William reflects on lessons from his parents’ troubled marriage to shape his relationship with Kate Middleton.

In a recent episode of Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series, *The Reluctant Travelers*, released on October 3rd, the Prince of Wales shared insights about navigating familial relationships. “I think it’s really important that an atmosphere of warmth and safety is cultivated at home,” said William, 43, discussing his parenting approach with their three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.

“That feeling of love all had to be there, and it marked my childhood,” he added. Yet, he acknowledged the warmth was short-lived, as his parents divorced in 1996 when he was just eight. Their separation was widely reported, particularly regarding King Charles’ ongoing relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles, whom he married in 2005.

“You learn from those experiences and strive to ensure you don’t repeat the same mistakes,” William noted. “I believe we all aim to do that.” He recognizes that family challenges can profoundly impact children’s growth.

“I genuinely want to do what’s best for my kids, but I understand that the drama and stress of a chaotic upbringing can linger into adulthood,” he commented.

William also reflected on the media scrutiny surrounding his parents, suggesting it played a significant role in their marriage’s struggles. “Watching it unfold during my childhood was exhausting. It’s hard to process now, but the media was insatiable. They wanted every detail,” he said.

He’s committed to shielding his family from similar pressures. “If I let them in, the damage it could inflict on my family’s life is something I refuse to allow,” he asserted. “I take a firm stance on what crosses a line, and I confront it.”

William and Middleton prioritize family time, typically gathering for dinners each night.

He added that their children do not have cell phones, which he believes is an important boundary. “We’re quite strict about that,” he stated.

They encourage their kids to find joy in various activities. Charlotte enjoys netball and ballet, George is keen on soccer and hockey, and little Louis loves jumping on the trampoline.

William expressed pride in their engagement with sports and outdoor fun. “They’re also trying to learn musical instruments. I’m not sure how that’s going, though,” he laughed, hinting at the ongoing challenges of parenting.
