A Louisiana meteorologist recently made headlines for a serious incident involving his girlfriend. Devon Lucy, who stepped into the role of lead meteorologist at WDSU just this past August, was arrested on Sunday after reportedly breaking into her home and physically assaulting her, all while her child was asleep nearby.
Lucy, 48, faces charges of domestic violence, child endangerment, and resisting arrest for not providing identification when requested. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, he had been attending a festival in Gretna, which is only about five miles from New Orleans, prior to the altercation with his longtime girlfriend. They reportedly ended up parting ways during the event.
Later, Lucy showed up at her residence—a scenario reportedly instigated after her mother dropped her off. Tensions escalated, leading to Lucy allegedly attacking her through the door.
While two children were asleep in the living room, an argument erupted, resulting in Lucy allegedly assaulting his girlfriend before she could react. It appears that Lucy left the confrontation with noticeable scratches on his face, as seen in his mug shot.
Interestingly, the girlfriend mentioned to authorities that she believed Lucy was acting in self-defense, yet the situation escalated to violence.
When police arrived, Lucy was reluctant to disclose basic personal information, even refusing to clean his injuries, which were reportedly bloody. WDSU has placed him on leave as the investigation unfolds.
Lucy, who has taken on the Chief Meteorologist role after his predecessor had been at the station for 45 years, is also a father of two. His career has spanned eight different stations since he graduated from Western Illinois University in 1997.
