NFL 2025: An Early Look at the Standings
All NFL teams faced a tough start in 2025, with the final unbeaten teams falling swiftly. The Eagles lost in Week 5, igniting a lively discussion about who truly stands out in the league.
Who’s the best team in the NFL?
Seven teams boast a 4-1 record, but it seems to boil down to a race among the Bills, Eagles, and Lions for dominance. One thing is clear: the Ravens and Chiefs are struggling to keep up.
The Ravens and Chiefs, once formidable, are losing the benefit of the doubt quickly this season. Early losses to teams like the Bills, Lions, and other strong opponents might be forgiven, but the Texans’ 44-10 victory is a different story altogether. It doesn’t matter how many Pro Bowlers the Ravens have sidelined.
As for the Chiefs? They find themselves under .500 after their first five games, which is a rarity since 2016.
Looking ahead to the NFL Power Rankings for Week 6, both the Ravens and Chiefs have taken noticeable tumbles.
1. Lions 4-1 (3)
David Montgomery made quite the splash in Cincinnati, scoring both a rushing and a throwing touchdown in the Lions’ 37-24 win over the Bengals. They surged ahead with a substantial 25-point lead through three quarters, thanks to Jared Goff’s three touchdowns. Montgomery and Jamhyr Gibbs even tied an NFL record with 14 touchdowns together as teammates.
2. Eagles 4-1 (2)
The Eagles allowed 18 points in the fourth quarter, watching a 14-point lead evaporate into a 21-17 loss against the Broncos. This marked their second defeat in the past 22 games, including playoffs. Jalen Hurts did throw two touchdowns, but they went to Dallas Goedert and Saquon Barkley.
3. Bills 4-1 (1)
The Patriots struggled with three turnovers, falling to the Bills 23-20. Despite a four-game skid, Josh Allen found a way to rally his team back, even leading a comeback capped by a last-minute 52-yard field goal.
4. Buccaneers 4-1 (6)
In a whirlwind 68 seconds, the Buccaneers scored a game-tying touchdown, gained momentum through an interception, and ultimately clinched a 38-35 victory with a walk-off field goal from Chase McLaughlin. Rachaad White stepped up, rushing for two touchdowns in place of the injured Bucky Irving.
5. Packers 2-1-1 (5)
Had it not been for two blocked kicks, the Packers might very well be sitting at 4-0. Coaches say special teams count for one-third of the game, and it looks like they were right this time. Jordan Love managed to spread the ball around, showcasing talent like tight end Tuckercraft, who caught 16 passes.
6. Colts 4-1 (11)
The Colts clamped down in a major way against the Raiders, winning 40-6, their biggest margin since 2013. Jonathan Taylor was crucial, scoring three touchdowns, while the other half of their dynamic duo, Daniel Jones, threw a pair of touchdowns too. Most of their points came in the middle quarters.
7. 49ers 4-1 (14)
Mac Jones filled in for Brock Purdy excellently, tossing two touchdowns and amassing 342 yards in a 26-23 overtime shocker. Eddy Piniero sealed the deal with a field goal, and the defense made a crucial stop to end the game.
8. Jaguars 4-1 (13)
Trevor Lawrence wowed fans again, weaving through defenders to score a pivotal rushing touchdown, helping the Jaguars defeat the Chiefs 31-28. He accounted for three touchdowns overall. Devin Lloyd’s 99-yard interception return flipped the momentum, marking the Jaguars’ best start since 2007.
9. Rams 3-2 (7)
Kylen Williams had a mixed outing against the 49ers. He recorded two touchdowns but also had a fumble near the goal line and missed critical fourth-down opportunities. Nevertheless, Matthew Stafford threw for an impressive 389 yards.
10. Broncos 3-2 (15)
Sean Payton surpassed Bill Parcells on the all-time coaching wins list in a dramatic game against the Eagles. Bonix was clutch, completing 9 of 10 passes in the fourth quarter, leading a comeback that capped with a go-ahead two-point conversion.
11. Chiefs 2-3 (4)
12. Seahawks 3-2 (9)
13. Steelers 3-1 (12)
14. Commanders 3-2 (17)
15. Chargers 3-2 (8)

26. Browns 1-4 (28)
27. Saints 1-4 (32)
28. Titans 1-4 (31)
29. Giants 1-4 (24)
The Giants faced tough luck, ending five consecutive drives with turnovers and losing valuable yards in a 26-14 defeat against the Saints. Jaxson Dart threw two touchdowns early, but things unraveled quickly for New York.
30. Dolphins 1-4 (29)
31. Raiders 1-4 (27)
32. Jets 0-5 (30)
The MetLife Stadium echoed with chants of “Let’s Go Cowboys!” as the Jets fell behind early and lost to Dallas 37-22. A critical fumble near the end of the game marked a stark reality; the Jets became the first team to start a season 0-5 without any turnovers. It’s been a rough start for New York.
