President Trump voiced his disapproval of Bad Bunny being selected as the Super Bowl 2026 halftime show performer, labeling it as “absolutely ridiculous.” He made the comments on Monday, expressing skepticism about the choice of the Puerto Rican artist.
On Newsmax, host Greg Kelly brought up the decision and questioned if audiences should be outraged by the NFL’s announcement from last month, noting that many might not even know who Bad Bunny is. “This guy isn’t like a unified entertainer,” he remarked.
Trump echoed these sentiments, claiming, “I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy.” He further criticized those responsible for selecting entertainment for the event.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, is a three-time Grammy Award winner and one of the most streamed artists globally. He expressed his excitement about the performance, emphasizing the significance of the event for his culture and community.
Despite some celebrations regarding his selection, the choice has drawn criticism from various politicians and figures, including former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick and Trump’s advisor, Cory Lewandowski.
Over the weekend, Bad Bunny faced backlash, which he addressed during his “Saturday Night Live” appearance. In a light-hearted jab at his critics, he mentioned, “If you don’t understand what I just said, there are four months to learn.”
The Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, set to occur on February 8, 2026, at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California, will be produced by Roc Nation and Jesse Collins, with Apple Music involved in the presentation.
