Conor McGregor Suspended for 18 Months
Controversial UFC fighter Conor McGregor has received an 18-month suspension from the Combat Sports Anti-Doping program due to violations of the UFC’s anti-doping rules.
According to the CSAD, McGregor failed to submit three biological samples within a year, which is a breach of anti-doping regulations. His suspension is retroactive, starting from September 20, 2024, and will last until March 20, 2026.
The samples he missed were scheduled for June 13, September 19, and September 20, 2024. CSAD noted that McGregor was recovering from an injury and wasn’t ready for competition at that time. The last time he fought was in July 2021.
The statement from CSAD indicates that McGregor has fully cooperated during the investigation, accepted his responsibility, and provided information that contributed to the case. Despite his cooperation, the CSAD stressed the importance of proper submission and the necessity of conducting surprise inspections. Taking into account his circumstances and cooperation, the typical two-year penalty for such failures has been reduced by six months.
If eligible, McGregor could return just in time for a White House event on June 14, 2026.
In a related note, President Donald Trump has confirmed that the UFC event will indeed take place that weekend.
McGregor has expressed eagerness about participating in this event. In a video, he mentioned it was “undoubtedly” exciting to join the UFC White House match.
UFC CEO Dana White clarified that negotiations for McGregor’s participation in the event have not yet begun. He stated during a recent press conference that they won’t start discussing matchups until February. While McGregor is motivated to fight, no formal discussions have occurred regarding this specific card.
