Democrats Without Leadership 'Make Me Think of Somalia' as Unproductive Shutdown Persists

Trump Critiques Democrats Over Government Shutdown

On Tuesday, President Trump sharply criticized Democrats regarding the ongoing government shutdown, suggesting that their current lack of leadership starkly contrasts with what he believes should be expected.

He particularly targeted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, claiming that despite Republicans having passed a clean resolution in the House nearly three weeks ago, Democrats are still causing governmental delays.

“I’m not sure if Schumer still holds any power. I mean, I’m looking at what’s happening here, but honestly, I’m not sure who to address this to,” Trump remarked.

He went on to express his frustration over receiving calls from Democrats who wanted to meet, although he remarked he wasn’t familiar with them and questioned their leadership status. “They don’t appear to have a leader. Every time I think of them, it reminds me of Somalia,” he noted.

These comments came following a reporter’s inquiry about certain programs the government might terminate due to the agency’s shutdown.

Trump chose not to specify which programs might face cuts but implied that many would be affected. He stated that the shutdown has created a situation where the Trump administration, particularly the Office of Management and Budget, finds itself needing to eliminate excess spending to maintain critical services.

“This could actually yield some benefits. I think they’ve really messed up due to the shutdown, but on the bright side, we’ve managed to uncover billions in waste, fraud, and abuse that they’ve put right in front of us,” he claimed.

“We have Russell Vote, a responsible guy, working hard to eliminate unnecessary expenditures, likely due to something Schumer did,” he added.

When discussing the potential for permanently laying off federal employees, Trump suggested he could provide further details in about five days if the shutdown continues.

“If this persists, we’ll know for sure in four or five days. It could impact a significant number of jobs, many of which may not return,” he warned, mentioning that the U.S. budget would also be nearing equilibrium.

Since the beginning of the government closure, the White House has already put a halt to $18 billion and $2.1 billion in infrastructure initiatives in New York City and Chicago, along with canceling around $8 billion of funds related to the “Green New Scam,” affecting projects in predominantly Democratic states.
