Harbaugh Brothers Trade Deal
Recent reports indicate that the Ravens have traded linebacker Odafe Owe to the Chargers. In return, they receive safety Alohi Gilman and a fifth-round draft pick for 2026, alongside a seventh-round pick for the 2027 draft.
This trade comes at a tough time for head coach John Harbaugh and the Ravens, who now sit at 1-4 after a heavy 44-10 defeat to the Texans. Cooper Rush had to step in as quarterback, filling in for the injured Lamar Jackson.
During this challenging period, John sought guidance from his younger brother, Jim, who leads the Chargers.
Alohi Gilman, now with the Ravens, is a seasoned defensive back in his sixth year, currently ranked 56th out of 134 safety players by Pro Football Focus. Baltimore’s pass defense has struggled this year, notably allowing an average of 262.6 passing yards per game—putting them near the top of the NFL for vulnerability. Furthermore, safety Kyle Hamilton missed Sunday’s game due to a groin injury.
Earlier in the week, the Ravens took steps to shore up their defense by signing safety CJ Gardner-Johnson, just weeks after his release from the Texans.
“Obviously, we lost in every sense of the word,” John Harbaugh reflected post-game. “It’s a total disappointment.”
Gilman has a career total of five interceptions and 252 tackles, and he is expected to become a free agent at the end of this season.
Meanwhile, the Chargers, led by Jim Harbaugh, find themselves tied at the top of the AFC West with a record of 3-2. Jim welcomed Owe to his team, who had his best season last year with a personal record of 10 sacks for the Ravens. However, this season has been quiet for him, with only 10 tackles and no sacks over the first five games, despite starting in two of them.
