The initial batch of Social Security payments for October is set to be distributed this week. This marks the first payment cycle under the new paperless approach introduced by the agency.
Beginning this month, most recipients need to establish direct deposit into their bank accounts or utilize a direct high-speed card for their payments.
This transition away from paper checks stems from an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which halted the issuance of paper checks by the federal government back in March, eliminating the September 30th compliance deadline.

Who will receive Social Security payments this week?
Per the SSA payment calendar, those born between the 1st and 10th of their birth month will receive their monthly benefits on Wednesday, October 8th.
When will Social Security payments be sent?
Social Security benefits primarily go to older or retired individuals, with payments generally scheduled for Wednesdays.
For recipients whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th, payments are typically processed on the second Wednesday of the payment month, according to the SSA’s calendar. Those born between the 11th and the 20th will receive their payments on the third Wednesday, whereas recipients born after the 20th will be paid on the fourth Wednesday.
If you’ve been receiving Social Security payments since before May 1997, expect your payment on the third day of the month, unless it coincides with weekends or holidays.
For individuals receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security payments will be issued on the third day of the month, while SSI will be sent on the first day.

The individuals eligible for the Supplemental Security Income Check were set to receive payments on the first business day of the month, which was October 1, 2025.
